Vessel (Yuji) Starter Guide: Black Flash Without Mashing
A practical Vessel guide for Jujutsu Shenanigans: build a clean M1 route, time Divergent Fist, and use Black Flash as a confirm instead of a lottery ticket.

Yuji combos and Black Flash practice
Watch the route after learning the base buttons. A montage is not a substitute for neutral.
Open media referenceVessel is the Yuji-style kit and one of the best places to learn how Jujutsu Shenanigans actually wants you to fight. You do not need a spreadsheet to start: get close, make the opponent respect M1, then turn a confirmed hit into a skill route.
What each slot is for
| Slot | Move | Use it like this |
|---|---|---|
1 | Cursed Strikes | Keep pressure after you have already touched the opponent. |
2 | Crushing Blow | Use the knockdown or air route after a real confirm, not from a different postcode. |
3 | Divergent Fist | The setup for Black Flash. The second press is the timing check. |
4 | Manji Kick | A punish and approach check; it is much better when the opponent is already committed. |
R | Combat Instincts | Save the special for the situation your route needs instead of pressing it on cooldown. |
Black Flash: the part people keep overcomplicating
- Select Vessel from the character list.
- Press
3once to start Divergent Fist. - Watch the preparation animation. The character gives you a visual cue; do not count a universal number of frames.
- Press
3again during that cue. Red-and-black sparks mean you hit the timing. - If you miss, stop mashing. Let the move finish, reset to neutral and try again from a clean confirm.
The important lesson is not “press 3 twice quickly.” It is press 3 twice with a reason. The first press is a threat, the second is a read on the opponent’s stun and your own animation. In a real lobby, people will block, dash or hit you before the second press. That is why the drill belongs after M1 practice.
A starter route that teaches the game
Use this as a rehearsal, not a promise of fixed damage:
M1 × 3 → 3 (Divergent Fist) → jump → 2 (Crushing Blow) → 1 (Cursed Strikes)
If 2 misses, do not force the rest. Finish the exchange, watch the opponent’s evasive, and take the next neutral instead. The player who resets after a missed confirm usually beats the player who insists on finishing a combo that is already gone.
After the base route feels boring, practise the Black Flash timing in a private server. Then try it after a dash punish in public. That order keeps the funny red sparks from becoming a very expensive whiff.
